Herb Ritter is a furniture maker and cigar lover located in Cary, NC. He has built a very diverse portfolio of furniture throughout the years and recently began making high end humidors at the request of fellow cigar enthusiasts.
All of the humidors are hand made by Herb in his shop. The outer humidor walls are constructed with 9/16" solid Spanish Cedar and solid wood veneer. The top and bottom are constructed of 1/2" Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and covered with a solid wood veneer as well. The lids on "solid hardwood" humidors most likely will warp over time due to the grain structure of the solid wood that follows the growth rings of the tree which is round. It is this reason we use MDF instead of solid wood for the lid and bottom which is very stable and also adds some nice weight to the humidor.
Solid hardwood edging is used on all corners, top and bottom edges, and along opening of lid.
The inner box (this is what makes a humidor a humidor) is constructed from solid 1/4" thick Spanish cedar.
The side rail hinges are made from solid brass that are sourced from the UK. These side rail box hinges are far superior in strength due to their unique stop system and are the most elegant hinges on the market.
The outside of the box is finished with a hand rubbed natural oil finish and a hand applied coat of wax giving it a semi gloss sheen and an elegant feel to the touch. We do not finish these with a high gloss finish as they look unnatural, feel like plastic, scratch very easily, and are difficult to repair.
